Taxation

          First and foremost must be the way governments are funded. I am a strong supporter of the grassroots movement known as the FairTax or in Michigan:FairTaxMi.  . Basically, the plan is to replace the current intrusive, invasive, immoral income tax with an inclusive 23% national retail tax on all new products and services.

            The removal of the Internal Revenue Service from our daily consideration will be such a growth factor for our economy that we will become a place people from other countries invest because our economy will be so much stronger.

            The removal of the Internal Revenue Service will eliminate the possibility of so-called IRS abuses whereby agents of the federal government can enter the homes and businesses of citizens and seize whatever they wish to satisfy what they consider an obligation to the federal government. Too often, this results in an improper seizing and taking, without due process and without any kind of proof.

            The enactment of the FairTax will allow citizens to keep all of their paycheck while at the same time lowering prices. Then a national retail sales tax will be applied so that generally speaking the price of goods and services “out the door” will be very close to the price paid today.

            The FairTax will also give as a “prebate” to each family according to the size of household which covers the tax which will be due up to the level of basic necessities thereby removing tax considerations from the people of lower income. The FairTax is more progressive than the current income tax and can actually provide a negative for those who choose to grow some of their own food and buy used items. Those of more means will still make purchase of more services and products and therefore pay much more in taxes.

            One of the things I like most about the plan is that it is the largest transfer of power from the federal government to the people since our beginning. Far past time for that to occur.
